MAXINE Wauchope is the Peninsula Waves' new head coach.
The Waves have restructured their coaching department with Robynn Pym stepping down from the head coach position to focus on her role as coach of the Victorian Netball League championship team.
Pym said Wauchope would be overseeing and mentoring the coaches to ensure they had a strong program to help the Waves improve on the previous season's promising performance.
"Her role is to ensure that all the coaches are providing an elite program for all players," she said.
"It's more to provide mentorship for the coaches and to ensure the program is the same across the board for all players. It will also allow me to concentrate more on coaching the championships."
The Peninsula outfit has had a boost in recent times with all teams now based out of Patterson River Secondary College.
Previously the Waves' junior and senior teams had been shuffled around different venues, but the completion of the Carrum facility has unified the club.
"All training at the one venue helps the kids develop and helps us keep them in our program," Pym said. "These kids are all potential VNL players and to not develop them and keep them in the program is a travesty."
The Waves are expecting Malawi international Mwai Kumwenda to rejoin the club on January 20.
