RYE netballers completed their home and away season with a 54-32 win over Dromana to clinch the minor premiership undefeated.
This week, Rye plays Tyabb at Rye in the second semi-final, the winner going through to the grand final.
Tyabb defeated Red Hill 65-24, Crib Point beat Hastings 64-23, Edi-Asp claimed its finals berth with a 46-23 win over Pearcedale, and Rosebud easily disposed of Sorrento 78-17.
Rosebud's late-season form surge suggests it will overcome Edi-Asp in the first semi-final and move into the preliminary final.
The B grade finalists are Pearcedale, Tyabb, Rye and the undefeated Edi-Asp, which has not been seriously challenged at all and should have little trouble with Rye this week, securing a spot in the grand final.
Despite finishing fourth, Pearcedale has the home court advantage in the first semi-final and should take the early lead against Tyabb and hold it.
Pearcedale and Rosebud deserve praise for qualifying for the finals and Rye, Tyabb and Edi-Asp especially so for making the A and B finals.
Having seen every team play, I would like to select a Nepean All-star team of the finest players on the peninsula. For the two defenders, I've chosen Tracy Snooks (Rosebud) and Trish McLachlan (Rye); the latter is also undoubtedly the coach of the year. Mid-fielders would be Sam Boyington (Sorrento) in defence, Laura Wilson (Crib Point) as vice-captain in attack, and Sarah Hose (Tyabb) as centre and captain.
The two goalers would be the Rye duo of Emma White and Ellen Millar.
There are plenty of other good players from where these seven come from, but the common characteristic of these seven players is amazing skill, machine-like consistency, and grace under pressure.
