FRANKSTON Pines centre back Sait Guler played most of his junior football in goal for Noble Park until he was 14, when current Pines coach Tom O'Halloran decided to use him on the park.
O'Halloran played the then reserve keeper in an under-18 match in 2007. The 17yearold has never looked back and now plays a pivotal role in Pines' 2010 squad.
Guler works in the family butchery business in Keysborough but may soon be calling the UK home after he and three teammates were invited to play in Torquay United's youth team.
"We went over there in January for a trial and they asked the four of us to come back in the middle of the year," he said.
Guler attends the Sports Education and Development Australia course in Seaford which is run in conjunction with Football Federation Victoria.
The course is designed for talented players who complete coaching programs integrated with a sport and recreation curriculum and VCE.
And Guler's mohawk?
"It was a dare from my teammates," he said. "I was in Malaysia last year with an academy team and they dared me to get a mohawk."
"It will come off before I get to Torquay."
