THE Peninsula Strikers have been promised $120,000 for much-needed lighting towers at their home ground if the Liberal Party wins next month's state election.
Opposition sport and recreation spokesman Hugh Delahunty said: "The Peninsula Strikers Junior Soccer Club provides great opportunities for boys and girls to become involved in soccer from a young age and the club can only benefit from improved facilities, including lighting, at their ground at Ballam Park."
Liberal candidate for Frankston, Geoff Shaw, said the club was one of the most popular in the Frankston region, fielding 33 teams with more than 350 players aged from five to 16.
"The club fosters a love of soccer for the kids of Frankston, and by participating they not only gain health and fitness benefits, but they can make new friends and have fun too," he said.
The Strikers play during winter and the $120,000 windfall would pay for six light towers covering two pitches, allowing the club to train after dark and, potentially, all year round. In summer, the ground is used for cricket.
