MT Eliza earned the double chance in this year's MPNFL Peninsula Division finals following a comprehensive 28-point victory over Karingal on Saturday.
The equation was simple heading into the clash. The winner would play a qualifying final against Seaford this Saturday at Eric Bell Reserve while the loser would face Chelsea in an elimination final on Sunday at Frankston Park.
Mt Eliza had nine scoring shots to
just three in the first quarter and that
set the tempo for the rest of the match.
The Redlegs' backline has been their strength all season and with Rob D'Orazio and Lloyd Williams providing plenty of drive and the midfield of Darren Booth, Rohan Heasley, Dan Gormley and Luke Peel up and about, the visitors were hard to stop.
Grant Masterson finished with four goals and is working nicely now with Scott Lockwood, who also contributed on the scoreboard.
Todd Farrelly and Duncan Proud were good for the Bulls and Callan Dixon was again among the team's best.
Chelsea bounced back from its worst performance of the year – when it was thrashed by Frankston YCW – by leading all afternoon and beating Pines by 31 points.
Chris Worner finished with five goals, Nigel Carmody and Anthony Lewis dominated, and Jackson Powell again proved why he has been one of the team's most consistent performers all year. Cade Egan and Paul Lewis were among the Pythons' best, as were youngsters Steve Taylor and Jarrod Guganovic.
Seaford warmed up for its qualifying final stoush with Mt Eliza by handing Langwarrin a 75-point hiding.
Pat Cadd booted seven goals and Damien McCormack four. Joe Hallal and Aaron Walton were outstanding.
Langwarrin's three best players this season – Jayden Grose, Andrew Withers and Daniel Wehner – again led from the front.
The locomotive that is Frankston YCW continued its charge, belting Edithvale-Aspendale by 83 points.
Lewis Roberts kicked five against his old team and Ben Tellis and David Bodley each contributed four.
Beau Turner and Josh Dent led from the front for the Eagles and Brent Bowden with two goals again proved he was the premier centre half-forward in the competition this season.
Mornington led for three of the four quarters against Bonbeach on Saturday but failed to be in front at the final siren.
For Chris Holcombe's last game for the Doggies, the home side lifted and led by 15 points at the last change.
However, the Sharks, led by Paul Rebeschini and Danny Ades (five goals), booted 11 goals to one in the last quarter to win by 46 points.
