Reds on the brink with low score

23 Feb, 2010 09:11 AM
MT Martha has placed itself in a precarious situation after being rolled for 99 against Ballam Park on Saturday in round 10 of MPCA Provincial cricket.

Holding fourth place entering the second-last round of the season, the Reds will have to produce something very special with the ball to get out of this situation.

In the four by just eight points, Ballam Park, Peninsula Old Boys and Mornington are all breathing down their neck.

The Knights are 1-14 in reply after Andrew Tweddle smashed through the Reds' bats with 5-31. Anthony O'Neil was also electric for the Knights with 4-24.

Peninsula Old Boys looks the goods to keep the pressure on Mt Martha, hitting 251 against Moorooduc.

Brandon Lawler was among the runs yet again for the Old Boys, hitting 110, Brad Glenn was unbeaten on 38 and Andrew Parsons made 31.

The evergreen Andrew Kitson was once again superb with 3-46 and Neil Barfuss helped himself to 3-66 for the Ducs.

Mornington has also given itself every opportunity of playing finals after restricting Baxter to 201 at Alexandra Park.

Daniel Warwick made 88 and Darren Uccello 60, leaving the rest of the batsmen wondering. Matt Foon was outstanding with the ball for the Doggies with 6-66.

Mornington didn't get the start it was looking for, finishing on 1-8 at stumps.

Somerville did a superb job against Crib Point, restricting the third-placed Pies to 162. However, the Eagles' bats couldn't back it up and they look like getting rolled. With Shaun Ezard snaring 5-49 and Jack Kennedy 2-20, the Pies were under the pump all innings. The classy Luke Herrington top-scored for the Pies with 57.

The Eagles collapsed to be 6-88 at stumps. Ben Delaney is still at the crease, which gives them some chance of victory. Brad Davidson was sensational for the Pies with 3-5 and Glenn Barclay snared 2-39.

Sorrento scored 8-208 against Long Island, one of its best performances of the year.

The Islanders could be forgiven for being a little weary, a big chunk of them reporting for Country Week duties.

But that didn't stop Paul Hartle claiming 7-77 for the Islanders. Sam Wills top-scored for the Sorras and Nick Davern helped himself to 36.

Frankston YCW did a great job against Heatherhill, restricting the opposition to 152, but their bats couldn't step up to the place. At stumps, the Stonecats were 2-32, Matty Meagher claiming 2-18.

Craig Burch snared 6-73 for the Stonecats with the ball and Joe Rule top-scored for Heatherhill with an unbeaten 35.
