FRANKSTON Peninsula Heat had a victory over Melbourne University but suffered a major scare at the hands of the Premier Cricket cellar dweller at Melbourne University on Saturday.
Heat captain Matt Chasemore's prediction that it would be no easy task to beat Uni proved true after his team struggled past their meagre target of 130 with the loss of eight wickets.
Keeping with his attacking captaincy this season, Chasemore declared the Heat's innings at 8-132 and went chasing quick wickets but Uni managed to see out the second day's play at 4-125.
The victory means the Heat remain unbeaten in the two-day competition and in third position on the ladder, narrowly behind Carlton and Prahran.
The Heat lost Chasemore (24) and Nick Jewell with the score on 97, leaving it seven wickets down and requiring 23 runs for victory. Luke Walker (13) and Chris McCormick (18 not out) put on 22 to ensure the win.
■ The Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association's Jack Peacock Shield Twenty20 final was still in progress when The Weekly went to print after a rain delay yesterday afternoon.
Somerville batted first and compiled 8-162 from its 20 overs. In reply Mt Eliza was 1-16 from 2.2 overs when play was stopped.
