FRANKSTON Peninsula Heat moved into second position on the Premier Cricket ladder with a hard-fought first-innings victory over Footscray Edgewater at AH Butler Oval on Saturday.
The Heat resumed 2-76 but disaster soon struck with skipper Matt Chasemore failing to add to the 32 he scored on week one in the side's pursuit of 160.
Guided by opener Sam Wiese (53), the Heat passed Footscray Edgewater's total with the loss of five wickets and promptly declared.
But the Heat's bowlers failed to make major inroads into the Footscray Edgewater batting line-up in the second innings, with the visitors crawling to 3-55 from 30 overs before stumps. Jack Benbow finished with 2-22 for the Heat while Darren Groves (1-8) claimed the other wicket.
Frankston Peninsula Heat clashes with Richmond at Central Reserve, Glen Waverley from 11am on Saturday.
Frankston Peninsula 2nd XI's 275 proved not enough in the clash with Footscray Edgewater at Mervyn Hughes Oval. The home team finished 9-292.
