THE scramble is on for a place in the MPCA District Shield top four and the home-and-away season is far from over.
While Mt Eliza (104 points) and Langwarrin (98 points) are absolutlely safe from falling out of the top bracket, there are another five clubs looking to grab the final two positions.
With just two days remaining in the fixtured season, Carrum sits in third place (78 points), Main Ridge in fourth (60), followed by Boneo (60), Somerville (54) and Seaford (54).
The Lions have given themselves every opportunity to maintain their status in the top four after scoring 168 against Langwarrin on a slow deck.
Josh Dent was the highest scorer for the Lions with 44 and Jeremey Graves with 39 was the next best. Daniel Bray continued his rise with 3-20 and Ben Wells (2-14) and Mal Coutts (2-24) bowled tightly.
It was hard to come to grips with the scoreline between Delacombe Park and Mt Eliza. There were 20 wickets lost in a day and less than 150 runs scored.
Mt Eliza batted first and was dismissed for 71. Matt O'Brien top scored for the Mounties with 44 and the Parkers' Evan Campbell claimed 5-21.
The Parkers were then rolled for 50, Sam Creffield and Justin Grant snaring three each. In their second dig, the Mounties are 0-25.
Main Ridge is 1-14 in reply to Seaford's 158. Jason Albress was superb for the Ridge, claiming 5-49, putting his side in a commanding position to hold on to fourth place.
Fifth-placed Boneo still has a lot of work to do against Balnarring. Balnarring made 9-185, leaving the home side with a fair chase. Boneo finishes the season away with a one-dayer against Langwarrin.
Baden Powell scored 8-217 against Frankston YCW and shouldn't have any problems defending that score this week.
