MPCA: Cougars' top-four hopes fade

07 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
CARRUM Downs' season is on the verge of ending after it lost 14 wickets for less than 100 runs against Rosebud on Saturday.

Just percentage out of the Sub-District Division top four, the Cougars were bowled out for 62 in their first innings and are 4-31 in their second dig. Jason Nagel has match figures of 9-32, snaring 6-19 in the first innings and 3-13 to date in the second.

Rosebud, currently in fourth place, will shore up a place in the top four with an outright win. The Buds made 4-177 before declaring their first innings.

Pearcedale will need to produce something special to get the 225 needed against Skye. The Panthers are holding third place on the ladder, a game clear of Skye, which is just percentage out of the four.

Chris Milne top scored for the home side with an unbeaten 41. Shayne Gillings was the best of the Panthers' bowlers with 5-61.

In the all-important top-of-the-table clash between Red Hill and Pines, the visitors have set Red Hill a whopping 367 for victory.

While Red Hill is 20 points clear of Pines on top, the mental advantage for the winner cannot be underestimated coming up to finals. In a run-feast afternoon, Pines made 366 before Red Hill ended the day on 1-60.

Dromana has set Tyabb 261 for victory in the battle of the cellar dwellers. Jason Clarke top-scored for the Hoppers with 70.
