Mount Eliza youngsters taste MCG glory

10 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
ASPIRING cricketers grow up dreaming of playing on the MCG during the Boxing Day Test match.

The dream became a reality for a group of emerging young Mount Eliza cricketers when they featured in a Milo in2Cricket on-field demonstration during the lunch break of the Boxing Day clash between Australia and India.

The program is aimed at Children 5-10 years old and gives them the opportunity to develop cricket skills, physical fitness, social skills, sportsmanship and an understanding of the game.

Australian captain Michael Clarke, who is a graduate of the program, said it was important to give children a taste of the big time.

"I remember the first time that I got to play on the SCG as a Milo kid and it was a massive thrill," he said.

"It's become a great tradition to have the energetic kids practising their skills and experiencing the big stage during the lunch breaks and it's fantastic to see Milo and Cricket Australia continuing to give this amazing opportunity to the boys and girls."
