Teen makes elite squads

FRANKSTON Blues junior basketballer Mitchell Riggs has added another couple of feathers to his cap after being selected for the Australian under-17s and Victorian under-18s.

Riggs caught the eye of Australian head coach Guy Molloy while competing in the East Coast Challenge in Sydney.

This earned him a spot at the Australian Institute of Sport training camp last week where he prepared for the inaugural under-17 world cup in Hamburg, Germany, in July.

Molloy said the 16-year-old's entry into the team was a credit to the coaches at Frankston and to Griggs' commitment.

"Mitch is in unique situation, in that he has not played at the state level before being selected to the squad."

Griggs said: "When they called out my name at the final team selections, it was unbelievable.

"Playing for Victoria has been one of my goals for a very long time now and now that I have achieved it, I will make sure I make the most of it and represent the Frankston Blues and Victoria the best I can."
