FRANKSTON athletes braved the blustery conditions at the Knox Athletic Centre when the Athletics Victoria Summer Shield returned from its Christmas hiatus.
Straight back from their excellent results in Brisbane a week earlier, Ben Khongbut set the pace in the men's 110-metre hurdles while Luke Cann led the field in the javelin and discus.
Jarryd Buchan and Ryan Bedford finished first and second in their heats of the 100-metre events, with Briana O'Donoghue finishing third in the under-14 women.
Alexia Loizou was first across the line in the women's under-14 400 metres while Kayla D'Angelo and Sarah Buchanan were second quickest in their respective age groups.
Kayla Ripari, Alona Broome, Emily Hodges and Kimberley Boyce won their respective hurdles events.
In the longer distance events, Sean Whipp and Jack Simmons took the honours in the men's open 1500 metres, while Kaitlyn Eagan and Kayla Cheasley did likewise in their age groups. Matilda Cole finished third in the 3000 metre steeple event.
In the field events, Michael Cann, Alona Broome and Jordyn McConchie all won their respective long jump events with Megan Heap finishing second to Broome.
Brydee Moore won her Javelin event as did Alycia Maher, with Jasmine Carroll a close second. Harrison Prior was second in his event. Alycia Maher also won her discus event, with Rachael Mulder second.
The next round of the Summer Shield will be held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park on Tuesday, January 31 from 6.30pm.
