Thieves fail in attack on Carrum Downs ATM

31 Jan, 2012 03:00 AM
POLICE are hunting for would-be thieves who attempted to tie a towing snatch strap to an ATM in Carrum Downs and drive away with it.

Up to three men were travelling in a small tip-truck when it crashed into the front window of the closed Caltex service station on Frankston-Dandenong Road just before 4am on January 22.

Security footage shows the men making repeated attempts to tie the strap to the ATM before leaving in the truck, which was later found set alight in Austin Road, Seaford.

Witnesses reported seeing a light-coloured ute with a canopy leaving the Austin Road area. A police media spokeswoman said police believed the truck was stolen prior to being crashed into the service station window.

Information about the ram raid and attempted theft can be phoned through to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
