Teen burnt in backyard fire

24 Jan, 2012 04:00 AM
A 13-year-old boy was critically injured in a backyard fire in Mt Eliza on Friday.

Advanced life support paramedics from Mornington, a single responder intensive care paramedic and an ambulance helicopter were called just after 1.30pm.

Intensive care flight paramedic Shaun Whitmore said the boy suffered serious burns in the incident.

"The boy was near a fire in the backyard which flared up, causing some burns to his chest, arms and face.

''The teenager ended up with some burns to his airway which can swell and restrict the airway and prevent you breathing efficiently."

The boy was flown to the Royal Children's Hospital in a critical condition.
