'Nothing toxic' about smelly sludge

07 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
SMELLY sludge from the mouth of Patterson River that was pumped up on to Carrum beach during dredging last fortnight is not toxic, says Parks Victoria.

Spokesman Jarred Parsons said the sludge was made up of sand and "natural organic material".

"The material is analysed regularly and it is not toxic." Mr Parsons said dredged sand was quickly bleached by the sun and the smell would disappear after a few days.
