The couple locked eyes as nippers at the Frankston Life Saving Club when they were eight years old.

They dated as 14 year olds but went their separate ways only to be reunited as 19-year-old nursing students at Frankston Hospital.

"I took her bowling," recalls Mr Ryan. "My bowling skills won her over." His persistence eventually paid off and they rekindled their relationship.

Speaking just before the wedding, the 23 year olds said they were looking forward to married life together and there would be plenty of childhood stories shared at their wedding.

"I still have emails Steve sent me from when we were 14 years old," Ms Jones said. But it was Mr Ryan who had dreamed of the couple one day getting married. "I probably have old notepads with our initials scribbled on them," he said.

The pair were photographed in the Frankston Independent - the predecessor of the Weekly - in 2001 as 12 year old nippers before either could have predicted how their love would blossom. "You never know what can happen," Mr Ryan said.

The Frankston Life Saving Club has always played a big part in the couple's lives and they thought it fitting to have the reception there after a ceremony on the beach.

"It has sentimental value," Ms Jones said. "We loved nippers as kids and will definitely be getting our children involved, when we have them. It is a good, healthy activity to be involved in."

The couple will honeymoon in Bali and have bought a house on the peninsula.
