POLICE say a couple whose light plane flipped while trying to land on a private airstrip in Baxter last Sunday week is lucky to have walked away unscathed.
The pilot and his female passenger, both in their 50s, were attempting to land at the Ingersoll Road property at about 8.30pm when a gust of wind flipped the plane on its side. It came to rest between trees next to the runway.
It is the third light aircraft crash in the area within a month.
On January 10, Tyabb resident David Ransom crashed his ultralight into trees on his Boes Road property, injuring his ankle.
A few days later four people aged in their 70s were attempting to land at the Tyabb Airfield after a flight to Phillip Island when a gust of wind flipped their plane. The group sustained minor injuries.
Following the crash in Baxter, police notified the Air Traffic Safety Bureau.
