Fresh start at Seaford Park Primary

21 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
STARTING school was particularly special for twins Maddison and Zachary and their prep classmates at Seaford Park Primary School.

Last year the school council considered shutting it down due to low enrolments, but support from families and the broader community led to the school being kept open. New principal Julie Braakuis said 2012 had brought a "refreshed feel" to the school.

"We have a large number of parents who have worked around the school with the addition of outside artworks and planned projects to beautify the surrounds as well the inside with displays and murals. We value how important the school is to our children and our families and are encouraged by the involvement of the parents and local community.

We have had a lot of support shown for our lovely school."

It was this state government and Education Minister Martin Dixon who wanted to shut down this wonderful school. However, Mr Dixon and Premier Ted Baillieu did an about face due to the pressure from parents and our local MP Jude Perera. Shame!

Shame on you, Mr Baillieu,

Mr Dixon and Ms Peulich. Oh that's right - you were all around in the Kennett days when schools were shut down and sold off and our valued teachers sacked.

Heather,

Ex-student at Karingal High School, which was located along Ashleigh Avenue Frankston.
