Events explore diverse cultures

DURING March, Frankston businesses, community groups, residents and visitors are celebrating cultural diversity through a range of events.

This Wednesday: Ventana Film Festival, AMC Cinemas in Frankston, 6pm.

From Portugal: Goodnight Irene. Includes special guest Fado singer Olivia da Sousa and Portuguese delicacies.

This Saturday: Ventana Latina Fiesta, Frankston Council's fourth annual community boutique celebration of Latin American, Portuguese and Spanish cultures, people and stories. Wells Street and the White Street Mall are transformed for the day and night fiesta (from 1pm-11pm) featuring latin music, dance, food, arts

and cultural attractions, interactive cooking demonstrations and a fashion show with a difference.

This Sunday: Pines Pride

Day, 10am-2pm,at Monterey Community Park, corner Monterey Boulevard and Forest Avenue, Frankston North.

The fun free family day is a celebration of community spirit and provides the opportunity for local agencies, businesses and community groups to showcase their work in the community, including the Global Village, presented by Frankston's multicultural community. Other activities include free artistic and musical entertainment, face-painting, badge-making, games, rides, showbags, community stalls, an animal farm, Hip Cat Circus and stiltwalker, food and refreshments, competitions and prizes.

Sunday, March 21: Frankston Interfaith Network celebrates Harmony Day at the Frankston library, 60 Playne Street. A presentation explaining the rituals and splendour of Hindu weddings will include sample Indian snacks, a display of religious sculptures and special half-price chai. Children's activities are also planned. This is a free event, however bookings are required on 97841020.

Sunday, March 27: Pines;Seaford Fishing Club is celebrating diversity and promoting a multicultural day at the Pines;Seaford Clubrooms, 1/39 Milne Avenue, Seaford, from noon-5pm.

The day aims to recognise and promote the range of cultures in the community and encourage participation and social inclusion. Activities will include multicultural food and a fishing exhibition.
