Car ferry plans on track

30 Jun, 2009 03:52 PM
PLANS for a car ferry between the Western Port side of the peninsula and Cowes on Phillip Island will be ready in September next year.

Mornington Peninsula Shire's economic development manager Shane Murphy says consultant Meinhardt Infrastructure and Environment has been hired to draw up a concept design and complete detailed planning up to the statutory approval stage.

"We are working with Bass Coast Council, Tourism Victoria and Regional Development Victoria to get the project moving. A vehicle ferry service between Cowes and Stony Point would create a world-class tourism route, linking the Great Ocean Road, the peninsula, Bass Coast, Wilsons Promontory and the Gippsland Lakes.

"It also has the potential to further stimulate the local and regional economy."

Individuals and organisations interested in upcoming surveys, forums, workshops and discussions can call Mr Murphy on 1300850600 or email custserv
