Boy dies after Seaford beach mishap

24 Jan, 2012 01:00 AM
A NINE-year-old boy died after getting into difficulty at Seaford beach last Thursday.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said the boy, who was swimming with friends, was pulled from the water, near the pier, about 7.15pm.

Seven paramedics spent more than an hour trying to revive the boy who was flown to the Royal Children's Hospital but died.

Intensive care paramedic Gary Robertson said that when the paramedics arrived eight minutes after they were called the boy was in cardiac arrest.

"A nurse was doing CPR on the boy who was on the beach about 300 metres from the pier. Paramedics continued CPR and gave the boy cardiac drugs in an attempt to restart his heart," Mr Robertson said.

Police are appealing for witnesses to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
